Termite baiting is an alternative method used to destroy termites. Here's how it works: Bait stations, or feeding traps are set throughout the infested property. Initially, the bait consists of wood only. Once it's been determined that the termites have been feeding, the wood is then replaced with poisonous bait. Because termites frequently exchange and transfer body and food secretions, it makes it easy for an entire colony to become infected with the poison. When the feeding has discontinued, it's assumed that the colony has been destroyed. Then, the bait stations can be used as a type of monitoring system. If feeding begins, you know you have termites. One main advantage to termite baiting is that it's an effective way to destroy the entire colony. Keep in mind, however, that termite baiting takes time, and can only be done by a professional.
